Étretat beach, Porte d'Aval and Needle seen from above the Porte d'Amont

Surrounded by cliffs, the beach is relatively sheltered from prevailing winds. It is made up of pebbles.
These pebbles are a natural bulwark, necessary to protect the coastline. In fact, they contribute to this protection by acting as a "wave damper", in the same way as artificial stonework would.
At the top of the cliff stands the stone silhouette of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde chapel, protector of fishermen.
