Étretat beach, Porte d'Aval and Needle seen from above the Porte d'Amont

A panoramic view of a coastal landscape featuring white cliffs with an arch, and a beach.

Surrounded by cliffs, the beach is relatively sheltered from prevailing winds. It is made up of pebbles.

These pebbles are a natural bulwark, necessary to protect the coastline. In fact, they contribute to this protection by acting as a "wave damper", in the same way as artificial stonework would.

At the top of the cliff stands the stone silhouette of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde chapel, protector of fishermen.
