The Porte d'Aval and the Needle at dusk

An underground river, followed by marine erosion, formed a natural arch and a 55-metre-high needle, a relict piece of the cliff.
The Manneporte, visible behind the Porte d'Aval, is wider than the latter. It is so large that, according to Maupassant, a ship could pass through it under full sail.
