The next generation is coming

Because beech is a shade species, the forester must ensure that the new generations have settled under the shelter of their seed parents before being able to fully harvest the old trees that have reached economic maturity.
In Fontainebleau, they have slowly but surely conquered almost all the old Integrated Biological Reserves where oaks dominated less than 300 years ago!
Unfortunately, beech wood is not very interesting economically, and the Fontainebleau foresters would like to see it disappear, considering it to be a secondary, sub-montane species.
