European herring gull

A seagull is perched on a rocky shoreline, pecking at the ground near the water's edge.

Despite their name, European herring gulls have no special preference for herrings — in fact, examinations have shown that echinoderms and crustaceans comprised a greater portion of these gulls' stomach contents than fish.
